PITTSBURGH, Pa. – A stretch of hot and mostly sunny weather will end midweek as showers and thunderstorms return to western Pennsylvania, with the heaviest rain expected in Pittsburgh Wednesday afternoon. Some storms could bring downpours and gusty winds during the evening commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Moon Township, Tuesday will stay mostly sunny with highs near 89 degrees. Conditions turn unsettled late Tuesday night into Wednesday, with a 60% chance of showers and thunderstorms, especially after 2 p.m. Rainfall amounts may top a half inch in heavier cells.
Areas along I-79 and I-376 could see slower travel Wednesday as storms develop, while outlying counties such as Washington and Butler may also experience brief flooding on low-lying roads. Wednesday night brings lingering showers before tapering off toward Thursday morning.
Temperatures will dip slightly to the low 80s Thursday with scattered showers possible, but skies will clear Friday, delivering a dry and sunny day with highs in the mid-80s.
Storm chances return Saturday and Sunday before another round of sunshine early next week. Residents are advised to keep devices charged and watch for weather alerts through midweek.
