Houston, Texas – Drivers across Southeast Texas face reduced visibility by early Sunday as patchy fog develops after a day of near-record heat and gusty winds.
According to the National Weather Service in Houston/Galveston, temperatures will climb into the upper 80s to near 91°F inland Saturday, with coastal areas holding in the upper 70s to low 80s. South winds will increase to 10 to 15 mph, with gusts reaching 20 to 25 mph through the afternoon, especially along open roadways like I-10 and Highway 59.
The heat will peak in areas including College Station, Brenham, and Huntsville near 88 to 90°F, while Houston is expected to reach around 86 to 87°F. Coastal communities such as Galveston and Bay City will stay cooler, closer to 77 to 82°F. The combination of warmth and steady winds may elevate fire risk in dry fields and create crosswind hazards for high-profile vehicles.
By late night, conditions shift. Lows will settle between 60 and 65°F inland and 62 to 67°F near the coast. Patchy fog is expected to develop in areas including Wharton, Sugar Land, and Liberty, with visibility potentially dropping below 1 mile before sunrise Sunday.
Drivers should use low-beam headlights and allow extra travel time during the early morning hours. Additional updates may follow if fog becomes more widespread overnight.
