Ligonier, Pennsylvania – Mountain roads across the Laurel Highlands and northern West Virginia could remain snow-covered and treacherous through late Monday night as another 6 to 12 inches piles up in higher elevations.

According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 1 a.m. Tuesday for the higher elevations of Westmoreland, Fayette and Indiana counties in Pennsylvania, along with Preston and Tucker counties in West Virginia. The heaviest snow will continue to focus along ridge tops and elevated terrain, where colder air supports steady accumulation.

In Pennsylvania, areas near Ligonier, Donegal, Champion and Ohiopyle may see the deepest totals, especially along Route 30 and Route 711. In West Virginia, snow-covered stretches of U.S. 219 near Parsons and Route 7 near Kingwood and Terra Alta could become difficult to navigate, particularly during the Monday morning and evening commutes.

Officials warn that travel may become very difficult to impossible at times. Drivers should delay non-essential trips, allow extra stopping distance and keep emergency supplies in their vehicles. Reduced visibility and slick surfaces will persist in heavier bursts.

Snow is expected to taper off before daybreak Tuesday, but icy conditions may linger into the early morning hours as cleanup continues.
