Eugene, Ore. – Residents across western Oregon should prepare for a wet start to the week as showers and scattered thunderstorms roll through the Willamette Valley from Monday into Tuesday. Drivers could face slick roads during both morning and evening commutes as rain chances climb to near 90 percent.
According to the National Weather Service in Portland, showers are expected to begin overnight Sunday, with heavier rainfall and isolated thunderstorms possible after 11 a.m. Monday. Some areas could see a quarter to half an inch of rain, with localized higher totals in stronger storms. Tuesday brings another round of rain and thunderstorms, tapering to drier conditions by Tuesday night.
Eugene, Springfield, and surrounding communities should plan for periods of heavy rain and reduced visibility. The NWS advises residents to allow extra travel time, check headlights and wipers, and avoid flooded roadways. Power flickers or brief outages may occur during thunderstorms.
Conditions improve by Wednesday afternoon, with partly sunny skies returning and highs climbing into the mid-70s by Thursday. Showers may briefly return late week but are expected to be more scattered and lighter.
More showers are possible late in the week, but widespread thunderstorm chances diminish after Tuesday.
