New York – Bright sunshine is taking over Western New York, and the calm start to the day will give way to a warm, breezy afternoon. While much of the nation contends with severe storms and flooding, Buffalo enters a quieter stretch that should keep outdoor plans on track through the middle of the week.
According to the National Weather Service, sunshine dominates today with a high near 85 degrees and southwest winds between 6 and 9 mph. The warm pattern continues Tuesday with another high near 85 degrees, but southwest winds increase to 11 to 17 mph, with gusts reaching 28 mph during the afternoon.
The pleasant weather extends across Buffalo, Amherst, Cheektowaga, Tonawanda, Hamburg, Orchard Park, and Niagara County. Drivers along Interstate 90, Interstate 190, Route 33, Route 5, and the Kensington Expressway should expect good travel conditions, although stronger wind gusts Tuesday could make driving more difficult for high-profile vehicles.
Nationally, forecasters continue monitoring severe thunderstorms capable of producing flash flooding, damaging winds, hail, and isolated tornadoes across portions of the Plains, Midwest, and Southeast. That active weather pattern remains well south of Western New York, allowing high pressure to keep skies mostly dry through Thursday.
Take advantage of the comfortable stretch if you have outdoor projects or travel plans. Keep water nearby if spending extended time outside, and secure lightweight outdoor furniture before Tuesday’s stronger wind gusts arrive.
The pattern begins to shift late in the week. A chance of showers returns Friday night and continues into the weekend, bringing the first opportunity for wet weather after several sunny days.
