Buffalo, New York – Drivers across Western New York are waking up to light snow Monday morning, with slippery roads expected during the commute as snow spreads east through the region before tapering off this evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, light snow develops before daybreak across Western New York and continues through early afternoon, then shifts east of Lake Ontario by late morning into early evening. Snowfall amounts will be modest for most communities, but conditions may still be enough to impact travel on untreated roads.

Most of the Buffalo metro area, including Niagara Falls, Lockport, Batavia, and Rochester, is expected to see around an inch of snow, with locally lower amounts across the Southern Tier, including Jamestown and Wellsville. Farther east of Lake Ontario, including Watertown, Lowville, Pulaski, and areas along Route 81, snowfall totals could reach a few inches by early evening.

Roads, bridges, and ramps may become snow-covered and slippery at times, especially during the morning and midday hours. Motorists are urged to slow down, increase following distance, and allow extra time for travel. NYSDOT crews are expected to treat major roadways, but conditions can change quickly in passing snow bands.

Snow gradually tapers off later today, with no significant additional accumulation expected tonight. Officials say no major winter alerts are anticipated, but slick spots may linger into the evening commute as temperatures remain near freezing.
