Buffalo, New York – Roads across Western New York could turn slick within the next few hours as light freezing drizzle develops south of Lake Ontario during the early morning commute Monday.

According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, patchy freezing drizzle and flurries may form through mid-morning, especially along the I-90 corridor from Buffalo to Rochester and inland toward Batavia and Warsaw. Surface temperatures hovering between 22°F and 26°F overnight will allow untreated roads, bridges, and overpasses to freeze quickly.

Daytime highs will struggle to reach 36°F to 39°F across Buffalo, Rochester, and the Finger Lakes, running 5 to 10 degrees below normal. Areas closer to Lake Ontario, including Watertown and Lowville, will remain colder with highs near 31°F to 36°F and lows dropping as low as 15°F tonight.

Drivers should reduce speed on elevated roadways and allow extra stopping distance during the morning commute. Pedestrians should also watch for icy sidewalks, particularly in shaded areas.

A gradual warmup begins Tuesday, with highs climbing into the 50s by Wednesday and peaking near 60°F Thursday in Buffalo and Jamestown. Rain showers move in Wednesday night, mixing with wet snow by Thursday night before colder air returns Friday into Saturday.

Additional advisories may be issued if icing becomes more widespread early Monday.
