Buffalo, NY – Residents of Buffalo are bracing for significant snowfall and challenging road conditions today as a weather system moves across western New York. Rain will transition to snow by late morning, bringing up to 6 inches of accumulation in some areas, particularly south of the city.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Buffalo, the heaviest snowfall will affect higher terrain south of the city, where travel conditions could quickly deteriorate. Motorists along I-90 and local roadways are advised to drive with caution, as icy patches and reduced visibility are expected. Winds of up to 31 mph may create additional hazards, including drifting snow.

This wintry pattern will continue into Thursday, with a mix of snow showers and gusty conditions throughout the day. Daytime highs will hover near 32 degrees, but wind chills will make it feel much colder. Roads may remain slick through the evening, especially in areas prone to freezing.

Looking ahead to the weekend, snow showers are expected Friday through Saturday, with highs dropping to 27 degrees by Saturday. Sunday offers a brief reprieve, with lighter snow and temperatures nearing 26 degrees.

Residents are urged to prepare for hazardous conditions by stocking up on winter essentials and limiting travel when possible. Keep up with the latest updates by visiting weather.gov/buf for real-time forecasts.
