Buffalo, NY – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Buffalo has issued a snow squall warning for parts of western New York, including Erie, Niagara, Orleans, Genesee, and Monroe counties. The warning, effective until 8:45 a.m. Thursday, cautions residents about hazardous weather and travel conditions.
According to the NWS, a snow squall line was detected at 7:40 a.m., moving southeast across the Niagara Frontier at 15 mph. The squall brings intense bursts of heavy snow, strong winds exceeding 40 mph, and rapidly decreasing visibility, making travel dangerous within moments.
The warning affects several major locations, including Buffalo, Rochester, Cheektowaga, and Lockport, with impacts on Interstate 90 between exits 47 and 56.
Drivers are urged to slow down and avoid travel if possible until the squall passes. Those on the road should exercise caution and allow for extra travel time. Sudden whiteout conditions and slick roads may lead to accidents.
The NWS emphasizes the importance of monitoring the latest weather updates and being prepared for rapid changes in conditions.
