Mount Holly, NJ – The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued multiple Snow Squall Warnings this morning for parts of Pennsylvania and New Jersey, cautioning drivers about dangerous travel conditions due to sudden bursts of heavy snow and gusty winds.
Warnings are in effect for Sussex and Warren counties in New Jersey, as well as Monroe and Northampton counties in Pennsylvania, until 10:15 a.m. EST. Another warning impacts Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex, Morris, Somerset, and Warren counties in New Jersey, as well as Bucks, Montgomery, Chester, and Lehigh counties in Pennsylvania, until 10:00 a.m. EST.
Hazards: According to the NWS, radar and webcams detected intense snow squalls moving east at speeds between 35 and 50 mph. Visibility may drop to near zero due to whiteout conditions, with wind gusts exceeding 35 mph contributing to blowing snow.
Major highways affected include sections of Interstate 80, Interstate 78, and the New Jersey Turnpike, among others. The warnings also extend to parts of New York’s Delaware and Sullivan counties and northeastern Pennsylvania.
Residents are urged to slow down, use headlights, and prepare for rapidly changing visibility and road conditions.
