Buffalo, NY – Western New York is set to experience significant weather impacts today as the remnants of Tropical Depression Debby move through the region, bringing widespread heavy rain and a high risk of flooding. The most substantial rainfall and flooding risks are expected from the Genesee River eastward, with areas like Rochester and Syracuse particularly vulnerable. According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, localized heavy rain could also result in flooding across other parts of Western New York, including Buffalo and Jamestown.

The heaviest rain is expected this afternoon and evening, with rainfall amounts ranging from 1.5 to 3 inches in many areas, and higher totals possible in localized spots. Additionally, there is a marginal risk of severe thunderstorms, especially east of Lake Ontario, where conditions may become more volatile.

Looking ahead, the weather is expected to improve significantly over the weekend. Saturday will bring sunny skies and cooler temperatures, with highs around 74°F. Sunday will remain partly cloudy with a high of 72°F. As we move into next week, temperatures will stay mild, ranging from the low 60s to mid-70s, with mostly sunny skies dominating the forecast.
