Missoula, MT – A widespread Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for much of western Montana and north-central Idaho through noon Monday, October 27, according to the National Weather Service in Missoula.
Snow is expected across elevations above 3,500 to 4,000 feet, with accumulations ranging from 1 to 5 inches in most mountain passes and up to 4 inches in the West Glacier, Bitterroot/Sapphire, and Clearwater Mountain regions. Gusty winds near 35 mph may also create periods of low visibility.
Impacted areas include Highway 2 from Kalispell to Libby, I-90 from Lookout Pass to Haugan, Homestake Pass near Butte, Highway 83 near Seeley Lake, and Marias Pass near Glacier National Park. Forecasters warn that rapidly falling temperatures will cause wet roads to freeze, creating slick and potentially hazardous conditions for drivers.
The NWS advises residents and travelers to slow down, check updated road reports via 511, and prepare for winter driving conditions overnight. Outdoor enthusiasts should also be ready for cold temperatures and accumulating mountain snow.
Snow is expected to taper off by midday Monday, with lingering icy patches and colder-than-normal conditions into early next week.
