Grand Rapids, MI – Travelers across southern Michigan should brace for a rainy weekend, with warmer-than-usual December temperatures nearing 50 degrees. Drivers should be cautious as occasional showers and gusty winds are expected to impact roadways, especially along key travel routes like I-196 and I-94.
According to the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids, today’s high will reach 47 degrees, with rain continuing through the evening. Winds may gust up to 24 mph, making visibility and road conditions a concern. Overnight, temperatures will rise slightly, peaking near 50 by early Saturday morning.
Saturday will bring a 30% chance of lingering showers before noon, followed by clearing skies in the afternoon. Highs are forecasted at 52 degrees, offering a brief respite for outdoor plans or late holiday errands. However, colder temperatures return Sunday, with highs dropping to the low 40s and more rain likely by evening.
The extended forecast shows a mix of showers and cooler temperatures continuing into early next week. Rain transitions to snow by New Year’s Eve, as highs dip into the 30s. Travel could become hazardous late Tuesday into Wednesday due to icy conditions.
If you’re traveling this weekend, plan for wet roads and allow extra time. Use caution on bridges and overpasses, which may become slick during temperature drops. Stay updated on local road conditions and pack an emergency kit for extended drives.
