Grand Rapids, MI – Relief from storms arrives in Michigan Sunday, but residents in Grand Rapids should brace for a steamy, sun-soaked stretch ahead.

According to the National Weather Service, clouds will clear over Grand Rapids on Sunday, July 20, with high temperatures near 83°F by afternoon. Northeast winds around 5 mph will offer mild relief, but rising temps through midweek bring renewed summer hazards.

By Monday, sunshine dominates and daytime highs jump to 84°F. The heat intensifies Tuesday with highs reaching 88°F, climbing again to 93°F by Wednesday. Humidity will increase as well, creating heat index values that could push conditions into the mid-90s — especially along key corridors like I-196 and US-131, where pavement temps may soar.

Hydration, air conditioning access, and limiting outdoor activity during peak hours (noon to 5 p.m.) are strongly advised. While skies stay mostly sunny, overnight lows in the 70s offer little cooling relief.

Isolated thunderstorms could return late Wednesday night into early Thursday. The National Weather Service indicates a 30% chance of showers Thursday night, followed by another round of possible rain early Friday, though confidence remains low.

With minimal rainfall expected and temperatures rising, residents should monitor for heat advisories and ensure pets, elderly neighbors, and outdoor workers remain safe through the week.
