Grand Rapids, Michigan – Storms packing hail and gusty winds could rattle parts of West Michigan this evening, especially along and north of I-96.
According to the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids, scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected late Wednesday afternoon into the evening, with a 30–60% chance of rain. Some isolated storms may become strong enough to produce small hail and wind gusts exceeding 40 mph. Highs will range from 61° to 75°, with cooler temperatures closer to Lake Michigan.
Thursday brings a brief lull, with mostly dry conditions and highs in the low 80s inland. Late-day showers may develop, but the main concern shifts to Friday, when another round of storms and heavier rainfall is likely to impact commutes and outdoor plans. Rain chances surge back to 80–90% by Friday, with highs dipping to the upper 50s.
Drivers along US-131 and I-96 should prepare for reduced visibility and possible ponding during peak storm activity. Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, charge electronics, and monitor for potential watches or warnings through the end of the week.
Additional updates are expected Thursday morning as another system approaches the region.
