Paducah, Kentucky – Thunderstorms return to western Kentucky Thursday, bringing the threat of gusty winds and possible hail just in time for afternoon travel.
According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, scattered storms may develop Thursday afternoon and evening across portions of southern Illinois, western Kentucky, and southeast Missouri. While severe weather is not widespread, a few stronger cells could produce isolated hail or strong wind gusts. The highest impact timing is expected between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m., especially along major routes like I-24 and U.S. Highway 60.
Drivers and outdoor workers should remain weather-aware. If you hear thunder, move indoors. Lightning will be a hazard even outside the core storm areas.
By Friday, conditions stabilize with only a 20 percent chance of light showers. Highs will hover in the low 70s, offering a mild lead-in to Mother’s Day weekend. Saturday and Sunday look mostly sunny and dry, with temperatures reaching the upper 70s by Sunday.
Looking ahead, thunderstorm chances return Monday and Tuesday, with the highest risk of rain on Monday night. Calm winds and seasonal temperatures will persist, making for an overall warm spring pattern heading into mid-May.
