Jackson, Kentucky – Strong storms could rattle parts of eastern Kentucky Thursday, with heavy rain and a chance of isolated thunderstorms rolling into Jackson by early afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, a 70% chance of showers and thunderstorms is expected between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. Thursday. Lightning and brief downpours may impact travel on key roadways including KY-15 and KY-30. Rain totals may remain under one-tenth of an inch in most areas, but localized thunderstorms could dump higher amounts quickly. Showers are expected to taper off by late Thursday night.

While no formal severe weather warning is in place yet, residents should stay alert for thunderstorm watches, especially with afternoon storms possibly intensifying after 2 p.m. Outdoor activities, including school events and errands, should be wrapped up early Thursday to avoid hazardous travel. Light winds and cloud cover will keep temperatures cooler than earlier in the week, with a high near 75°F.

Looking ahead, skies clear Friday with highs around 71°F and sunshine continuing into the weekend. Saturday and Sunday bring ideal spring conditions — highs in the low to mid 70s with partly to mostly sunny skies.
