Beginning late Thursday, showers and storms will move into western Iowa, spreading across the state overnight and persisting into Friday. There is a potential for severe storms in southeastern Iowa, which may bring locally heavy rainfall.

According to the NWS, the storms are expected to move into the region Thursday night, with the heaviest impact occurring on Friday. Des Moines residents should prepare for highs in the upper 70s to mid-80s during this period, with a significant chance of severe weather disrupting daily activities.

The extended forecast indicates that the weather will improve over the weekend. Saturday and Sunday are projected to be dry and pleasant, with highs ranging from the mid-70s to lower 80s. The air quality in Des Moines remains good, with an index of 45, and the winds will be mild, blowing at around 5 to 9 mph from the northeast.

Looking ahead, early next week may see a return of unsettled weather. Monday has a 45% chance of rain, while Tuesday and Wednesday also show potential for precipitation. Highs will hover around the mid-60s to lower 70s.
