Buffalo, NY – Gusty winds and lake-effect snow are impacting large parts of western and northcentral New York as advisories remain active through 6 p.m. Tuesday.

According to the National Weather Service Buffalo office, a Winter Weather Advisory and a Wind Advisory are in effect across the region. Lake-effect snow is bringing additional accumulations of 3 to 6 inches, primarily east of Lake Ontario in areas such as Smartville, Adams, and Lowville. Wind gusts could reach up to 50 mph, especially in cities including Buffalo, Rochester, and Watertown.

The NWS warns that gusty winds may result in minor power outages and downed tree limbs. Blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility, particularly in Jefferson, Oswego, and Lewis counties. Roads may become slick, especially during evening commutes.

Residents are advised to secure loose outdoor objects, avoid travel if possible in affected zones, and monitor local alerts. Typical early April snow events in this area bring lower totals, making this late-season blast notable.

Snow and wind conditions are expected to taper off after 6 p.m., but lingering effects on travel and infrastructure could persist into the night.
