Memphis, TN – A cold snap is returning to West Tennessee overnight, prompting a Frost Advisory that may impact sensitive vegetation across the region.
According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, the advisory remains in effect from 1 a.m. to 9 a.m. Wednesday, with temperatures expected to drop as low as 29 degrees. This marks the second consecutive morning under frost alerts for parts of West Tennessee.
The advisory affects multiple counties including Shelby, Madison, Gibson, Henry, Weakley, Benton, and Hardeman, along with cities such as Jackson, Paris, Martin, Brownsville, and Bolivar. Residents in these areas are urged to protect tender plants, as frost formation may cause serious damage or kill unprotected vegetation.
Frost advisories are unusual for April in this region but not unheard of. Typically, the last frost in West Tennessee occurs in early April, making this cold spell slightly behind seasonal norms.
Officials recommend covering outdoor plants with cloth or moving them indoors if possible. Gardeners and farmers should take extra precautions to prevent crop losses.
Temperatures are expected to rise later Wednesday morning, ending the immediate frost threat, but another round of cooler-than-average weather could follow later this week.
