Charleston, WV – A wind advisory is in effect for Charleston and surrounding areas through Thursday morning, with gusts reaching up to 45 mph overnight. Drivers on I-64, I-77, and I-79 are urged to exercise caution as the strong winds may impact travel and visibility, especially on elevated roadways and bridges.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), a cold front sweeping across the region is bringing not only high winds but also a 40% chance of snow showers overnight. Temperatures are expected to drop to 24°F by morning, creating potential for slick road conditions during early commutes.

Thursday’s forecast calls for decreasing clouds and highs near 30°F, with winds tapering to 17 mph by midday. Clear skies and cooler temperatures will continue into Thursday night, with lows dipping to 18°F.

Looking ahead to the weekend, Charleston can expect mostly sunny skies and mild conditions. Friday will reach a high of 33°F, while Saturday and Sunday promise highs of 41°F and 54°F, respectively.

Residents are encouraged to secure outdoor items that may be affected by the wind and remain vigilant for falling debris. The NWS advises avoiding travel on high-profile vehicles and using caution when crossing bridges or overpasses.
