Charleston, WV – Dry weather will dominate through Saturday afternoon, but rain and potential freezing conditions may impact West Virginia roads by Saturday night. Residents should prepare for changes as freezing rain could develop early Sunday in mountainous areas, creating hazardous travel conditions.

According to the National Weather Service, Friday’s highs will reach the mid-40s under partly sunny skies. Saturday will see highs near 52 degrees with calm winds before rain moves in late. Showers are expected to start after 3 a.m. Sunday, with up to a half-inch of rain possible. Freezing rain or wintry precipitation could develop in higher elevations, particularly along roads in the West Virginia mountains and eastern slopes.

Sunday will bring widespread rain with gusts up to 25 mph and temperatures reaching the mid-40s. Rainfall amounts could exceed one inch in some areas. Drivers should use caution, especially on mountainous routes like U.S. Route 33 or WV-55, where slick conditions are more likely.

Looking ahead, Monday remains rainy with highs near 60, and temperatures stay mild into Tuesday, when showers taper off. By Wednesday, partly sunny skies return with highs in the mid-50s, offering a brief reprieve before another system arrives midweek.

Stay informed with updated forecasts and road conditions throughout the weekend. Use extra caution if traveling in higher elevations or mountain passes, especially Sunday morning.
