Marquette, MI – Lake effect snow showers are tapering off across Michigan’s Upper Peninsula Friday, with clearer skies expected into Saturday. Residents should prepare for a frigid start to the weekend, with temperatures beginning in the single digits before climbing into the 30s.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), a wintry mix is expected Saturday afternoon, primarily affecting south-central U.P. communities. Roads east of Munising and near Lake Superior could see icy patches. Drivers on M-28 and US-41 should exercise caution and monitor conditions closely. Saturday’s highs will range from 30°F to 37°F, with warmer temperatures near the lakeshore.
On Sunday, patchy fog and mostly cloudy skies will dominate, but temperatures will rise further, reaching the upper 30s to low 40s. Foggy conditions could persist overnight, reducing visibility on major roadways.
Looking ahead to early next week, Monday brings a higher chance of rain, starting midday, with showers potentially transitioning to snow Monday night as temperatures dip into the 20s. By Tuesday, partly sunny skies are forecast, though snow showers could return by midweek.
Residents should use this weekend to prepare for changing conditions, particularly with icy surfaces lingering from earlier snowfalls. Check local forecasts before traveling and remain vigilant during foggy periods.
