Charleston, WV – Widespread showers and thunderstorms are expected to sweep across West Virginia by Friday, bringing the risk of downpours and gusty winds from Huntington to Charleston before conditions clear on Saturday.

According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, mild weather continues through Thursday, but isolated showers could begin as early as Wednesday evening, especially south of Charleston and into the Huntington metro. Rain chances increase significantly Friday, when a cold front pushes into the region. Thunderstorms could be locally strong, with rainfall potentially impacting evening commutes and outdoor plans.

Temperatures will stay springlike until the front passes. Highs in the lowlands will reach the mid-70s to low 80s through Friday, while mountain regions will remain in the 60s and 70s. By Saturday afternoon, expect drier, clearer skies and cooler, seasonable temperatures in the 50s and 60s across the state.

Residents should plan ahead for slick roads and possible delays Friday, especially on I-64 and US-119. It’s a good time to check gutters and secure outdoor items. Power outages are not expected to be widespread, but charging devices ahead of storms is still recommended.

Rain chances drop sharply Saturday, with a calm, mild weekend finish likely. More updates and alerts may be issued as the system approaches.
