Pueblo, Colo. – Severe thunderstorms could pound Colorado’s eastern plains starting at 2 p.m. Wednesday, bringing hail up to 1.75 inches and wind gusts reaching 60 mph.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, storms will develop across southeast Colorado Wednesday afternoon, with the most intense activity expected between 2 and 8 p.m. MDT. The area under highest risk includes cities along the U.S. 50 corridor—La Junta, Lamar, and Springfield—as well as counties east of I-25. A few storms may turn severe near the Pikes Peak region.

Potential hazards include large hail, damaging winds, and an isolated tornado threat. The confidence level for hail and wind impacts is moderate, prompting officials to urge residents with outdoor plans to stay weather-aware and have multiple ways to receive warnings.

Drivers should secure loose items, delay unnecessary travel, and prepare for rapidly changing conditions. The threat marks one of the first severe weather events of the spring, a reminder of the region’s volatile seasonal transition.

Severe thunderstorm watches and warnings could be issued by early afternoon. Stay tuned for updates as storms develop.
