Snowshoe, West Virginia – Travel across the higher elevations of eastern West Virginia could become slick and dangerous late Wednesday as snow and gusty winds spread into the mountains, affecting roads through Thursday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from Wednesday afternoon through early Thursday afternoon for southeast Webster, northwest Pocahontas, and southeast Randolph counties. Snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches are expected, with wind gusts reaching up to 45 mph. These winds may cause blowing snow and bring down tree branches, especially along exposed ridgelines.

Mountain communities including Snowshoe and Harman are likely to see snow-covered roads by Wednesday evening, with bridges and overpasses becoming slick first. Reduced visibility during heavier snow showers could impact both the Wednesday evening and Thursday morning commutes, particularly along higher elevation routes.

The combination of accumulating snow and gusty winds may also lead to brief power disruptions if tree limbs are brought down. Drivers are urged to slow down, avoid unnecessary travel if possible, and check current road conditions before heading out.

Conditions are expected to improve gradually Thursday afternoon as snow tapers, though slick spots may linger on shaded roads and higher terrain. Additional advisories could be issued if snow showers persist longer than expected.
