Western Grant County, WV – A major winter storm is bringing heavy snow and significant ice accumulation to Western Grant County, prompting an Ice Storm Warning from 3 p.m. Wednesday to 4 a.m. Thursday. A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 7 a.m. Wednesday as snow continues to accumulate.
According to the National Weather Service in Baltimore/Washington, the area is expected to receive an additional 5 to 8 inches of snow by Wednesday morning, followed by up to a third of an inch of ice later in the day. A mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain will transition to steady freezing rain Wednesday afternoon into the evening, making travel extremely dangerous.
Roads may become impassable, and power outages are possible due to the combination of heavy, wet snow and ice accumulation on trees and power lines. Officials strongly discourage travel, especially during peak snowfall rates and icy conditions.
Drivers should carry an emergency kit with flashlights, food, and water if travel is unavoidable. Residents can check road conditions by calling 511 and should prepare for potential extended power outages as the storm intensifies.
