Charleston, WV –A weekend of rain is soaking West Virginia, and it’s not over yet. Charleston remains under a Flood Watch until 8 p.m. Sunday, and residents should brace for more rain into Monday morning, followed by a spring cold snap later in the week.

According to the National Weather Service Charleston office, excessive rainfall from thunderstorms is triggering flood concerns in low-lying areas and near rivers and streams, especially along I-64, which connects several flood-prone neighborhoods across the city. The NWS warns of potential stream overflows and localized flooding Sunday evening and urges drivers to avoid flooded roadways.

Rain continues into Monday, though it will ease slightly with only a 20% chance of showers by afternoon. The high will stay near 55°F, with cooler air arriving fast Monday night. Expect temperatures to dip to 28°F, and the first chance of spring frost by Tuesday morning. Gardeners and homeowners should take precautions now to protect sensitive plants and outdoor plumbing.

By Tuesday, skies clear and temperatures hold in the mid-40s, before dropping again Tuesday night with another freeze expected. Conditions gradually warm through Friday, though Thursday night into Friday brings another 30% chance of rain.
