The US National Weather Service in Charleston has issued warnings for showers and thunderstorms, with stronger storms predicted to produce damaging winds and possibly large hail through Friday. Localized flash flooding is also possible, creating hazardous conditions for residents across the state.

According to the National Weather Service, the severe weather outlook for Wednesday indicates a marginal risk for thunderstorms, with the risk level increasing through Friday. Areas including Charleston, Beckley, and Portsmouth are expected to experience the most significant impacts, with frequent lightning, strong winds, and heavy rainfall.

The forecast shows a 50% chance of thunderstorms today, with temperatures reaching a high of 91°F. Thursday’s forecast includes a 35% chance of storms and a high of 93°F, while Friday and Saturday show similar conditions, with storm chances at 45% and 35%, respectively. The potential for flash flooding is particularly concerning, especially in low-lying areas and regions prone to water accumulation.

Residents are advised to stay informed about weather updates and heed warnings from local authorities. Flash flood warnings can occur with little notice, so preparedness is crucial.
