Charleston, WV – Residents across much of West Virginia and southeast Ohio should prepare for frosty conditions early Friday morning as temperatures fall into the low- to mid-30s. The National Weather Service in Charleston has issued a Frost Advisory from 2 a.m. to 9 a.m. Friday.
The advisory covers a wide area including Athens, Parkersburg, Clarksburg, Weston, Summersville, Roane, and Fayette Counties, along with neighboring Perry, Morgan, Meigs, and Washington Counties in Ohio. Forecasters say temperatures as low as 33 to 34 degrees will lead to frost formation in valleys and sheltered rural areas.
According to meteorologists, clear skies and calm winds will allow rapid cooling overnight, producing ideal conditions for frost development. Sensitive outdoor vegetation could be harmed or killed if left uncovered.
Residents are advised to bring potted plants indoors and cover gardens or flowers before temperatures drop after midnight. Motorists may also notice light frost on windshields during early commutes Friday morning.
By mid-morning, sunshine should help melt frost quickly, with daytime highs returning to the upper 50s and lower 60s. Another cool night is expected Friday into Saturday, though widespread frost is less likely.
