Pittsburgh, PA – Strong winds are expected to impact Pennsylvania and West Virginia on Sunday, with gusts exceeding 50 mph in some areas, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) Pittsburgh.
According to the NWS, much of the region will experience gusts over 35 mph, with the highest probabilities in Pittsburgh, Akron, and Wheeling, where chances exceed 80%. In eastern Tucker County, West Virginia, the likelihood of gusts surpassing 50 mph reaches 75%, with Davis seeing a 52% chance of such high winds.
Residents in these areas should prepare for potential power outages, downed tree limbs, and difficult travel conditions. High-profile vehicles, especially on elevated roadways, may be at increased risk of instability due to the strong winds.
The strongest gusts are expected overnight Saturday into early Sunday morning, with winds gradually diminishing by Sunday evening. NWS advises securing loose outdoor objects and staying indoors if possible during the peak gust periods.
The wind event follows a pattern of recent breezy days, making already weakened trees and infrastructure more susceptible to damage. Officials urge residents to stay updated on weather alerts and prepare for sudden gusts that could create hazardous conditions.
