Charleston, WV – West Virginians are experiencing an unusual break from the August heat with temperatures only reaching the mid-70s today, a pleasant surprise for this time of year. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Charleston reports that high pressure is keeping the weather cool and comfortable, with a forecasted high of 77 degrees in Charleston, 78 in Huntington, and 76 in Parkersburg.
However, according to the NWS, this cool spell will be brief. A warming trend is set to begin Thursday, with highs rising to 79 degrees. By Friday, temperatures are expected to climb into the mid-80s, marking the start of a significant warm-up. The weekend will bring even hotter conditions, with Saturday and Sunday reaching highs of 86 and 88 degrees, respectively. The heatwave will continue into next week, with temperatures predicted to soar into the low 90s by Tuesday.
Residents are advised to enjoy the cool weather today, as it will likely be the last comfortable day before a stretch of hot and humid conditions takes hold across the state.
