Charleston, WV – Snowfall is set to blanket portions of Ohio and West Virginia Thursday, prompting a winter weather advisory.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the advisory remains in effect until 7 a.m. Friday. Snowfall between 2 and 5 inches is expected across central, northern, and southeastern West Virginia, including cities such as Beckley, Clarksburg, and Fayetteville. In Washington County, Ohio, 1 to 4 inches of snow is forecast.

The NWS warns of slippery road conditions that could impact Thursday’s morning and evening commutes. Temperatures are expected to hover near freezing, creating additional hazards for drivers. Southeast Raleigh County may experience the highest snowfall totals, with up to 5 inches expected by Friday morning.

Residents are advised to slow down and use caution while traveling. Officials recommend checking road conditions before heading out by calling 511 or accessing the state’s online traffic portals.

The snowfall is part of a larger weather system moving across the region, bringing moisture from the south and colder air from the north. The system is expected to weaken by Friday morning, but icy patches could linger on roads and sidewalks.
