Charleston, WV – Rain will persist through Tuesday night in Charleston before sharply colder temperatures bring a mix of snow by Wednesday afternoon. Residents are advised to prepare for slippery roads, especially in higher elevations, as wintry weather returns to the region.
According to the National Weather Service, rain showers will transition to a wintry mix late Tuesday, followed by light snow Wednesday. While lower elevations may only see trace accumulations on grassy surfaces, areas in the mountains could receive several inches. Temperatures are expected to plunge, with highs on Wednesday reaching only the mid-40s before dropping into the low 20s by nightfall.
Tuesday’s forecast includes steady rain with highs near 64 degrees, but a cold front moving in by night will trigger the changes. The most significant impact will occur along major roadways like U.S. Route 119, where wet surfaces may quickly freeze as temperatures fall. Drivers should reduce speeds and allow extra travel time.
Thursday will see clearing skies but remain chilly, with highs near 32 degrees and a chance of morning flurries. Friday promises a brief warm-up, reaching 42 degrees under sunny skies, before rain and wintry conditions potentially return over the weekend.
Residents should monitor local forecasts and prepare for sudden changes in weather conditions, particularly midweek. Those traveling through mountainous areas should carry emergency supplies in case of delays.
