Charleston, WV — A winter storm is set to bring heavy snowfall to southern West Virginia and northeast Kentucky, with accumulations ranging from 3 to 7 inches through Thursday afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, the winter storm warning begins at 10 p.m. Tuesday and lasts until 1 p.m. Thursday. Areas affected include Logan, Mingo, McDowell, and Wyoming counties in West Virginia, along with Buchanan and Dickenson counties in Virginia, and Lawrence County in Kentucky. Higher elevations could see up to 7 inches of snow, while lower elevations may receive 3 to 5 inches.
The storm is expected to create hazardous travel conditions, especially during the Wednesday morning and evening commutes, as well as Thursday morning. Officials advise motorists to carry emergency supplies such as flashlights, food, and water if travel is necessary.
