Greenville, NC – Eastern North Carolina is bracing for a significant winter storm expected to bring heavy snow, sleet, and ice accumulations starting Wednesday morning and lasting through late Thursday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Newport/Morehead City, the storm will bring 2 to 4 inches of snow and sleet, with ice accumulations up to three-tenths of an inch. The highest snow risk is in Greene, Pitt, Martin, Washington, Tyrrell, and Beaufort counties, while the greatest ice threat spans Martin, Washington, Pitt, Beaufort, Lenoir, Craven, Pamlico, Jones, Duplin, and inland Onslow counties.

The storm will begin at 7 a.m. Wednesday, with conditions deteriorating throughout the day. Power outages and tree damage are likely due to ice, and travel could become nearly impossible, especially during Wednesday’s morning and evening commutes.

Residents are advised to prepare for potential power outages and avoid travel if possible. If traveling is necessary, keep an emergency kit with food, water, and a flashlight in your vehicle. For real-time road conditions, call 511 in North Carolina.
