Marathon, Texas – Temperatures could soar to a scorching 113°F in the Big Bend region Saturday afternoon, triggering a heat advisory across parts of West Texas through 8 p.m.
According to the National Weather Service in Midland/Odessa, the advisory covers Central Brewster, Lower Brewster, Terrell counties, and the Chisos Basin. Peak temperatures between 1 and 8 p.m. CDT may reach 106°F across cities like Marathon, Sanderson, Panther Junction, and Lajitas.
The extreme heat raises concerns for heat-related illnesses, especially for those working or spending time outdoors. Officials urge residents to stay hydrated, avoid strenuous activity during the hottest hours, and check on elderly neighbors and young children. Lightweight clothing, shaded areas, and air-conditioned environments are recommended to minimize risk.
Drivers are reminded to never leave children or pets in parked cars, even briefly—interior vehicle temperatures can become lethal within minutes.
This marks one of the hottest days so far in June for the Big Bend area, with similar highs last seen during the 2022 heat wave.
The advisory remains in effect until 8 p.m. Saturday, with additional alerts possible if conditions persist into Sunday.
