Burlington, Vt. – Patchy dense fog is making for hazardous travel early Saturday across central and northern Vermont, with visibility dropping below a quarter-mile in spots.

According to the National Weather Service in Burlington, areas of very low visibility developed before dawn across cities including Rutland, Burlington, St. Albans, Montpelier, and Middlebury. Conditions are expected to gradually improve after sunrise.

Drivers on major routes such as I-89, US-2, and US-7 should slow down, use headlights, and allow extra travel time. The fog may be especially persistent in low-lying valleys and near bodies of water like Lake Champlain and the Connecticut River.

In addition to Burlington and Montpelier, impacts are also likely in towns such as Springfield, White River Junction, and Ticonderoga, N.Y., just across the Vermont border. Early morning travel for commuters, delivery routes, and outdoor events may be disrupted.

The fog is expected to lift shortly after 7 a.m., but motorists are urged to remain alert for rapidly changing conditions. No additional advisories have been issued, though updates will be shared if visibility worsens.
