Lubbock, Texas – Temperatures will climb quickly toward 90 degrees by mid to late afternoon Saturday, creating heat stress concerns for outdoor activities across the South Plains while gusty winds impact travel conditions.

According to the National Weather Service in Lubbock, highs will reach around 90°F between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m., with west to southwest winds sustained at 10 to 15 mph. Skies will remain mostly sunny, allowing rapid warming through the afternoon hours.

Cities across the region, including Lubbock, Levelland, and Plainview, will experience dry conditions with no rain expected, but the combination of heat and steady winds could increase fire danger in open areas. Roads such as US-84 and Loop 289 will remain dry, though crosswinds may affect high-profile vehicles at times.

Residents are urged to stay hydrated, limit prolonged outdoor exposure during peak heat hours, and secure loose outdoor items that could be affected by wind. Those working or exercising outside should take breaks and monitor for signs of heat-related illness.

Temperatures will fall into the mid-50s overnight, with similar warm and dry conditions expected to continue into Sunday. Additional updates will be issued if fire weather concerns increase.
