Midland, TX – Strong winds are expected to impact parts of West Texas and Southeast New Mexico on Wednesday, with gusts reaching up to 75 mph. The National Weather Service has issued a High Wind Watch from Wednesday morning through Wednesday evening for the Guadalupe and Davis Mountains, as well as surrounding areas.

According to the National Weather Service in Midland/Odessa, sustained west winds between 30 to 50 mph, with gusts up to 75 mph, are possible in the Guadalupe Mountains. In the Davis Mountains and Eddy County Plains, winds could range from 35 to 45 mph, with gusts up to 65 mph.

The strong winds will create hazardous travel conditions, particularly for high-profile vehicles such as semi-trucks, RVs, and vans. Drivers in these regions are urged to exercise extreme caution or postpone travel until conditions improve. Additionally, severe turbulence may pose risks to low-flying aircraft, especially near mountain ranges.

Authorities warn that blowing dust could reduce visibility, further complicating travel. Residents in affected areas should secure loose outdoor objects and prepare for possible power outages due to downed power lines.

The High Wind Watch remains in effect until Wednesday evening, and residents should monitor updates from the National Weather Service for potential warnings or advisories. Travelers and outdoor enthusiasts are advised to check conditions before heading out and take necessary precautions.
