Ackerly, TX – A magnitude 3.3 earthquake shook parts of West Texas Friday, centered 33 kilometers southwest of Ackerly. The tremor occurred at a depth of 6 kilometers, registering around 12:25 p.m. local time.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake was felt in surrounding areas including Midland and Odessa. Residents are being encouraged to report any shaking through the USGS “Did You Feel It?” program, which gathers citizen feedback on seismic activity.

Though there have been no immediate reports of damage, smaller quakes like this can still be felt by nearby communities. West Texas residents are accustomed to minor tremors due to regional oil and gas activity. However, the USGS continues to monitor the situation to assess any aftershocks.

To participate, residents can visit the USGS website and contribute details about the shaking they experienced. These reports help scientists better understand the effects of smaller quakes in populated areas.
