Jasper County, IN — The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office has released body-camera footage from a September 8 incident involving 26-year-old Rhyker Earl. Deputies responded to a request for assistance at Earl’s home after he suffered a medical emergency. The responding EMTs reported Earl’s mental difficulties and physical resistance to receiving aid.
The videos were cleared for release after an investigation by Indiana State Police. The Sheriff’s Office released four body-camera videos: three unedited clips from different deputies and one video compiling the footage. Deputies’ cameras were sometimes inactive or outside the home during the encounter.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, the deputies’ role was to prevent Earl from harming himself or the EMTs while medical assistance was provided. The department emphasized that it is not making conclusions about the actions of anyone involved. The ongoing investigation will determine any findings.
The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office expressed their gratitude to Indiana State Police for enabling the release of the footage despite the investigation still being in progress.
