Ludington, MI – The National Weather Service in Grand Rapids has issued a Winter Storm Warning for Mason and Oceana counties, where heavy lake effect snow is expected to create hazardous travel conditions throughout the day Monday and into early Tuesday morning.

The warning takes effect at 7 a.m. Monday and remains active through 4 a.m. Tuesday, with total snow accumulations between 4 and 9 inches expected. Forecasters caution that snow intensity and visibility may change rapidly across short distances, a hallmark of lake effect snow events.

Drivers should anticipate dangerous travel conditions during both the morning and evening commutes as snow bands move inland from Lake Michigan. The National Weather Service warns that roads may become slick and snow-covered, with occasional near-whiteout conditions in heavier bands.

Residents in Ludington, Hart, and surrounding communities are advised to avoid unnecessary travel, and those who must be on the road should keep flashlights, food, and water in their vehicles in case of emergencies or extended delays.

Conditions are expected to gradually improve late Monday night as snow showers weaken and shift southward, but lingering slick spots could remain into early Tuesday.
