Indianapolis, IN – The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) is warning drivers of new lane closures starting Monday, October 21, along U.S. 36 (Rockville Road) for continued utility relocation work tied to the Modern Rockville Road improvement project.
According to INDOT, the work zone will stretch between Transfer Drive and Girls School Road on Indianapolis’s west side. Crews will perform intermittent single-lane closures during the project, which is expected to continue through mid-January 2026, weather permitting.
The lane restrictions are necessary to complete a new phase of the long-term modernization effort on Rockville Road — a major east–west commuter route connecting Marion and Hendricks counties. Motorists are urged to allow extra time, reduce speed in work zones, and remain alert for shifting traffic patterns and roadside crews.
INDOT encourages travelers to stay informed by following @INDOT_WCentral on X (formerly Twitter), facebook.com/INDOTWestCentral, or checking real-time updates through 511in.org and the INDOT mobile app.
Officials also remind drivers to follow the “Buckle Up Phone Down” safety campaign by wearing seatbelts and avoiding distracted driving, especially in active construction zones.
