San Angelo, Texas – Damaging winds, flash flooding, and hail larger than golf balls could threaten parts of west-central Texas overnight as a line of severe storms moves across the region from northwest to southeast.
According to the National Weather Service in San Angelo, the highest threat begins after midnight and will continue through early Tuesday morning. Areas under a Level 2 “Slight Risk” include San Angelo, Sweetwater, and Sterling City, where isolated but intense thunderstorms may develop. Junction, Brady, and Abilene are at lower risk but could still see impacts.
Residents in low-lying or flood-prone areas should prepare for sudden heavy rainfall. Storms may also produce damaging wind gusts strong enough to down trees or power lines, especially during the early morning commute. Very large hail over 2 inches in diameter is also possible in stronger cells.
Drivers are urged to avoid travel overnight if possible and check road conditions early Tuesday. Charge phones and ensure flashlights and emergency kits are ready in case of power outages.
Storms may linger through sunrise, with additional watches or warnings possible into Tuesday morning.
