Tampa, FL – West Central Florida, including Tampa, Apollo Beach, and Westchase, is under increased alert as the region braces for severe weather from Tropical Depression Four, which brings a heightened threat of tornadoes.
According to the National Weather Service, conditions have become more favorable for tornado development, elevating the risk across the area. Residents are urged to prepare for potential tornadoes, which can cause significant damage such as roofs being torn off, mobile homes overturning, and large trees being uprooted. Emergency plans should include readying shelters and knowing where to seek immediate protection.
In addition to the tornado threat, the storm is expected to bring winds of 10-20 mph, with gusts up to 25 mph. There is a potential for these winds to reach tropical storm force, which could lead to localized wind damage, including broken tree limbs and scattered power outages. Securing outdoor objects and finalizing property protection measures are strongly recommended.
Heavy rainfall is anticipated, with forecasts predicting 4-8 inches and isolated areas possibly receiving up to 12 inches. This could result in significant flooding, especially in low-lying areas. Residents should complete flood preparations and be ready for potential evacuations.
Storm surge remains a serious concern, with projections of 2-4 feet above ground in surge-prone zones. The National Weather Service warns that life-threatening inundation is possible through Monday afternoon, advising those in vulnerable locations to seek higher ground immediately.
