Weeki Wachee, FL – A Hernando County Sheriff’s deputy is being praised for his lifesaving response Friday evening after authorities say he entered a fully engulfed trailer to rescue a woman trapped inside. The fire broke out around 7:30 p.m. on November 15 in the 11000 block of Richmond Street in Weeki Wachee.

According to the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office, the Emergency Communications Center received a 911 call reporting an active structure fire with two occupants still inside. Deputy T. Ferro, who was patrolling the area, arrived within minutes to find the trailer consumed in flames.

Realizing the occupants had not escaped, Deputy Ferro entered the burning home. Officials say he quickly located both individuals. One person, suffering from a foot injury, required assistance exiting the trailer. The second occupant, who was struggling to remove a woman from the home, worked with the deputy to get her to safety.

Hernando County Fire Rescue arrived shortly afterward and brought the blaze under control.

Both victims were transported to nearby hospitals. One was taken to a local facility and is listed in stable condition. The second victim was airlifted to a trauma center and remains in serious condition, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputy Ferro was also transported to a hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation and is expected to make a full recovery.
