Boston, Mass. – Rain will return to much of Massachusetts late Wednesday and linger through Saturday, potentially disrupting commutes, weekend plans, and road conditions from Springfield to Cape Cod.

According to the National Weather Service in Boston, rain chances rise sharply overnight into Thursday, with precipitation probabilities reaching 65% or higher in areas like Greenfield, Vineyard Haven, and Nantucket. After a brief lull on Friday, another wave of steady rain is expected Saturday, with 80% chances in Springfield, Lowell, and Providence between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Hartford and Worcester could also see significant showers, with rain totals peaking midday Saturday. Travelers should prepare for wet roads, limited visibility, and possible ponding in low-lying areas, particularly along I-90 and Route 2.

Eastern coastal towns like Hyannis, New Bedford, and Gloucester face elevated rain risks through Saturday, while drier air is expected to return by Sunday afternoon. With reduced rain chances below 15% starting Monday, the early workweek looks drier statewide.

Residents are urged to monitor local updates and avoid non-essential travel during Saturday’s rain window. Additional alerts may follow if storm coverage intensifies.
