Birmingham, AL – The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a severe weather alert for parts of Alabama, including Birmingham, ahead of an approaching cold front Tuesday. Forecasts indicate the possibility of brief, isolated tornadoes and wind gusts up to 60 mph, particularly in southeastern counties.

According to the NWS, the severe weather is expected to develop as warm, unstable air interacts with the cold front moving into the region. A Marginal Risk (Level 1 out of 5) has been assigned, emphasizing the potential for scattered thunderstorms.

Residents are advised to stay weather-aware and review emergency plans. Officials recommend keeping multiple alert methods, such as weather radios or smartphone apps, to receive timely warnings. Securing outdoor items and identifying safe shelter locations are also encouraged.

Storms are forecast to begin early Tuesday and taper off by evening as cooler, drier air moves in. A calmer, partly sunny day is expected Wednesday, offering relief from the turbulent weather.
