Pittsburgh, PA — A winter weather advisory has been issued for parts of Pennsylvania and West Virginia, warning of freezing rain and hazardous travel conditions on Sunday. The advisory is in effect from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. in Pennsylvania and extended until 1 a.m. Monday in West Virginia.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) Pittsburgh, areas including Clarion, Indiana, and higher elevations of Fayette and Westmoreland counties in Pennsylvania can expect ice accumulations up to 0.1 inches. In higher elevations of West Virginia, ice accumulations could reach 0.2 inches. Total snowfall is forecast to remain under one inch in most areas.
The advisory cautions drivers to prepare for slippery roads and reduced visibility. Winds gusting up to 40 mph in some regions may increase risks, especially for higher elevations. Officials recommend reducing travel unless absolutely necessary and encourage drivers to slow down and use extra caution.
